MIKE PORTNOY 'Sings' SABBATH, DIO Classics At TRANSATLANTIC's Milan Concert; Video Available

May 18, 2010

According to the news blog Musica Metal, TRANSATLANTIC — the progressive rock supergroup featuring DREAM THEATER's Mike Portnoy, MARILLION's Pete Trewavas, THE FLOWER KINGS' Roine Stolt and Neal Morse (ex-SPOCK'S BEARD) — paid homage to the late Ronnie James Dio by performing a "jam" version of "Heaven And Hell" (BLACK SABBATH) and "Holy Diver" (DIO) during its May 17, 2010 concert in Milan, Italy at the sold-out Alcatraz club.

Fan-filmed video footage of the Dio jam can be viewed below.

**UPDATE**: Portnoy has posted the following message on his official forum: "For the record (although I would think this is probably VERY obvious),this was COMPLETELY spontaneous...I just grabbed Pete's bass and decided to do it on the spot...I have a feeling Neal, Roine and Pete didn't even have an idea of how those songs go or what I was singing....

"If I would've ever known it was going to be posted on Blabbermouth (and 'judged' by their oh-so-intelligent-and-incredibly-more-talented-than-me fans),I probably should've shown the song to the guys backstage beforehand (and lowered the key so I could sing it!!!) : ) ....but this was just a completely spontaneous moment..."

Photos of the concert are available on Musica Metal.

The band's setlist was as follows:

01. The Whirlwind (full album)
------------------
02. All Of The Above
03. We All Need Some Light
04. Duel With The Devil
------------------
05. Bridge Across Forever
06. Heaven And Hell / Holy Diver
07. Stranger In Your Soul
